If manhood was measured by patriotism and leadership, “Alex Dunn is Captain America,” according to Fox News’ Todd Starnes in his 9/22/2016 article HERE. I agree. Alex, a 16 year old young man, rose to the occasion when desecration was perpetrated upon the American flag by his “history” teacher, Lee Francis, a dimwitted (no offense to dimwits, mind you) spectacle of the male species who thought he could teach from the platform of the threads of Ol’ Glory as he strode upon the Stars & Stripes in front of his class.
Francis was supposed to be teaching a history lesson on the First Amendment, not dancing in a promotional ad for “Black Lives Matter.” Did I say that Francis is a black man? I shouldn’t have to nor should I even need to bring it up, but he drew first blood so to speak, and I’m tired of whites and blacks playing the race card, or hiding behind it (like I believe Francis did). Does he not think patriotic Americans, white and black, can see right through his ruse? Or does he not think at all?
Alex took a picture of the atrocity, then saved the Flag from further sole-trampling (or soul-trampling?), delivering it to the principal’s office. Now, the knuckle-headed teacher (no offense to knuckle-heads) says that Alex broke the law by taking a picture of him… because students aren’t permitted to take pictures of teachers. Never mind that security cameras can take thousands of pictures of students in buildings and buses, images which are frequently used for evidence when kids misbehave. Just watch the evening news. Where’s the First Amendment now, Mr. Francis?
Mr. Francis (and I use the term Mr. loosely), you stepped out of your role as teacher when you acted out your protest, couching your personal agenda in the tenet of “effective teaching methodology.” That’s not teaching nor is it leadership. It’s just plain dumb. You took advantage of civility by expecting teenagers to sit there unresponsive while you “taught” about the the rights enumerated in the Constitution. You wanted your action to draw some response but it wasn’t the response you expected, was it? I’m curious as to how you intend to teach the Second Amendment, and the Third, and the Fourth, etc.
Mr. Dunn stepped into his role as a patriotic American and took action. He documented a stupid man doing a stupid thing in front of impressionable young Americans. He did not take a picture of the teacher because he – you, Francis – had surrendered that role in the moment for your own selfish gain.
Alex is the man. Francis can only hope one day to aspire to that level of masculinity.
Alex, continue to be the man – ἀνδρίζομαι. Your generation needs you.
